Launch Date Update

As most of you would have noticed, there has been a delay in the IKONIKAR launch. While this has been disappointing, we do believe it's for the best. In the ramp-up Tesla Model 3 production, Elon Musk spoke about "production hell", and it feels like an appropriate description of the IKONIKAR situation. Our initial approach to outsource the manufacture of our metal parts has proven problematic, and therefore we have make the decision to bring all facets of production in-house.

We’ve hit a few more tooling challenges these past two months but we hope to announce start of production of P0001 soon! This image shows all parts, except for the head and tail lights. All elements of production has now been brought in-house, with packaging being the only element being outsourced (also Johannesburg). Development update - the first completed samples of our first release, P0001, should finally be heading for licensing checks in about 2 weeks.

Developing an all new range of premium, high-detail 1/64 collectibles has been a challenge, with every next step requiring numerous iterations and refinements, but we are paying our dues with P0001, and with subsequent releases we will be able to move faster.

Still... the wait is almost over.

Progress Update : P0001's wheel, tyre and axle positionings have been finalised, giving the car a realistic stance. Interior has been fitted, and front and rear bumpers, which are separate plastic pieces, slot into position beautifully. The grille, side mirrors, bonnet vents, door handles, fuel cap and exhaust (also intricate, individual pieces) are completed but not fitted here.

Next step - window and head/taillamps.

IKONIKAR's first 1/64 scale release, is nearing completion in Johannesburg, South Africa, ready for the global premium 1/64 scale model market soon.

Pre-production of the first Ikonikar releases is now only weeks away. Final assembly will take place in our White Room, where a small team will hand-assemble these delicate 1/64 scale models before they are packaged and shipped worldwide.

The White Room is located inside a bigger facility in Randfontein, South Africa, with space for modular expansion when needed.

In the White Room the various part streams, consisting of metal bodies and chassis, plastic interiors, windows, lights and other trim pieces, rubber tyres and highly detailed decals will merge.

The windscreen grille of Ikonikar's P0001 release. Very delicate, very detailed. Would have been far easier to do a less detailed grille incorporated into the metal body, but that would result in a far less authentic product. This 3D-printed part is one of many to elevate our product design.

Yes, we have missed our self-imposed deadline, but things are progressing nicely on the development of our first 1/64 scale product.

This is an early prototype of P0001, being fitted with wheels and tyres and being used for interior fitment.

90% there. This is our first wheel & tyre unit. The rubber is soft and grippy and features a visible tread pattern. It also has a groove inside that helps it fit tightly to the highly detailed, chrome painted rim. The axle head doesn't go through the rim, allowing for a far more authentic wheel finish. Can you guess the car this will be fitted to?

It will be our first release, code-named P0001.
